Time spent alone

Time spent alone includes activities in which ATUS respondents were asked who else was with them during an activity but did not report that others were present. With whom information is not asked for certain activities, including sleeping (0101xx), grooming (0102xx), personal activities (0104xx), work (0501xx) prior to 2010, "respondent refused to answer" (500105), and "respondent didn't remember" (500106). Beginning in 2010, respondents were able to report who they were with during paid work activities and four new who codes were introduced (see RELATEW).
