DURATION is a 4-digit numeric variable reporting the length of the activity in minutes in one 24-hour period.
Description
DURATION reports the length of the activity in minutes. The sum of DURATION for all activities results in one 24-hour period (1440 minutes).
Some researchers may wish to use DURATION_EXT, which provides the length of the final activity as it was reported rather than truncating it at the end of the 24-hour reporting period.
This variable is available via extracts that are hierarchical or rectangular (activity) (more info on extract formats). If you request a hierarchical extract and plan to construct time use variables in your statistics package, this variable may be useful to you. If you request a rectangular extract and plan to construct time use variables through the extract system, DURATION will not be included in your extract, as persons are the unit of observation for rectangular extracts rather than activity or who records.
