Description
FAMINCOME reports the family's total annual income.
This measure includes the income of all members of the household who are 15 years of age or older. Income includes money from jobs; net income from business, farm or rent; pensions; dividends; interest; Social Security payments; and any other monetary income received by family members.
FAMINCOME was drawn from the final CPS interview, conducted 2-5 months before the ATUS interview. Family income was not updated at the time of the ATUS interview. However, individual earnings data for ATUS respondents was collected during the ATUS interview. See EARNWEEK and HOURWAGE.
Comparability
Beginning in January 2010 CPS, missing FAMINCOME values were allocated at a rate of up to 20 percent. An allocation flag (QFAMINCOME) is available for this variable for users concerned about the high allocation rate.
In January through September of 2003, the topcode for FAMINCOME was $75,000. From October 2003 forward, the topcode is $150,000.
