OCC_OJ_CPS8 reports the four-digit occupational code for the respondent's other (second) job, if applicable.
Researchers who would like broader occupational categories may wish to use OCC2_OJ_CPS8, which collapses occupation information into fewer, broader categories.
OCC_OJ_CPS8 was collected at the time of the last CPS interview, 2-5 months before the ATUS interview. The occupation of the respondent's other job was not collected at the time of the ATUS interview, but the occupation of the main job was. See OCC (and OCC2).
For the occupation of the respondent's main job at the time of the CPS interview, OCC_CPS8 reports the occupation information for that job using the same four-digit Census industry codes as OCC_OJ_CPS8. OCC2_CPS8 reports occupation information using the broader categories.
Comparability
From 2003-2010, CPS occupation codes follow the Census Bureau's 2002 Occupational Classification System. In 2011-2019, CPS occupation codes follow the Census Bureau's 2010 Occupational Classification System. From 2020 forward, CPS occupations were classified using the 2018 Occupational Classification System.
