Description
SEC_ALL_LN reports the amount of time during the associated activity that the respondent reported engaging in secondary eldercare, defined as caring for an adult who needs help because of a condition related to aging.
This variable is available starting January 2011.
Only eldercare providers are eligible to report engaging in secondary eldercare. Eldercare providers are the respondents who report having provided unpaid assistance more than once in the past 3-4 months (prior to the interview day), to a person who needed help because of a condition related to aging.
Secondary eldercare of household and non-household elderly is not recorded if the respondent's main activity is any of the personal care activities (01xxxx) or personal care services (0805xx).
This variable is measured in minutes and ranges from 0 to 1440.
This variable is available via extracts that are hierarchical or rectangular (activity) (more info on extract formats). If you request a hierarchical extract and plan to construct time use variables in your statistics package, this variable may be useful to you. If you request a rectangular extract and plan to construct time use variables through the extract system, SEC_ALL_LN will not be included in your extract, as persons are the unit of observation for rectangular extracts rather than activity or who records.
